236th Army Birthday Ball by The Webmaster (Living In Woodbridge Va) 236th Army Birthday Ball Time to shop for the Army Birthday Ball - the 236th Army Birthday Ball. Last night, my daughter and I had our annual "have to get a dress for the Army Ball" shopping marathon. It was very spur of the moment, completely down to the wire and took about 2 and half hours to complete. After all, the Ball is this Saturday and we only started to look last night. Potomac Mills did not disappoint. Disappointing, however, were the large number of gowns at Group USA, our usual "go to" store, still hanging on the rack for sale, and beyond the "I can tack that bead down" state. On some gowns, the dress fabric was ripped beyond repair at the zipper. On others, the satin fabric was frayed, even stained. It was sad to see that dress after dress had large patches of missing beads - some where several areas of the all-over beading had vanished due to a single pulled thread. On other dresses, the bead work along the shoulder straps was coming loose with individual beads ready to drop off. Sure, beaded gowns are delicate and should be handled with care but these lovely, floor length ball gowns were hopelessly trashed. Rather than focusing on color, style, embellishments and a great fit, it became a mission to find a single dress to try on that was in perfect wearing condition. Needless to say, Group USA did not make the sale this year. Undeterred, we explored the rest of Neighborhood 2 and moved on the Neighborhood 1, where we found the blooming shoes, classic jewelry and this year's, red carpet worthy, gown for the 2011 Army Birthday Ball. From behind the dressing room curtain, this floor length beauty received a loud "this is it" stamp of approval before it was even fully zipped. You know what I mean...she said yes to the dress.
