A recent visitor submitted a great seafood related question: "Where can I get crab cakes in Woodbridge, Virginia?"

Quite a few places in fact but it all depends on how particular you are about your seafood and more specifically your crab cakes!

A seafood restaurant like Red Lobster will most likely have crab cakes on the menu...but then again so do regular eateries which do not specialize in seafood.

Let's face it, crab cakes come disguised in many forms...

Some require close examination to actually find any sign of crab. They are mostly filler.

Then you have the real thing - delicacies made with lump crab and barely held together with a few bread crumbs and seasonings. Yum!

So where can you find these scrumptious seafood entrées in Woodbridge, Virginia?

Chesapeake Bay Crab Cakes & More
A family favorite, Tim's Rivershore Restaurant has crab cakes on the menu as sandwiches or as a full dinner.

Madigan's Waterfront in Occoquan, Virginia offers a "Chesapeake Bay" style crab cake platter and mini appetizer cakes.

Water's Edge, also in Occoquan, offers a
Jumbo Lump sandwich and "Maryland" style crab cake entrée on their lunch and dinner menu!

Wegman's Seafood Bar is another favorite. We've had some extremely well prepared seafood sitting right there at the bar!

Don't know how often they change the menu but if you prefer you can always pick up a few of their "Signature" crab cakes at the seafood counter.

So do we care whether its prepared Chesapeake or Maryland style? Or if it is deep fried, broiled or fried?

All we care about is that the main ingredient is the best quality and freshest crabmeat available.

In our household, seafood of every type is a regular item on the menu. It includes crab cakes. Here is our recipe:

  • 1 pound shell-free jumbo lump crab meat coarsely chopped shrimp meat is a scrumptious alternative!
  • 2 eggs
  • 2-3 tablespoons of mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup Progresso seasoned bread crumbs
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • dash of hot sauce
  • Old Bay seasoning to taste

Mix all ingredients except the crab until well blended. Gently fold in crab meat until evenly coated with the egg mixture.

Form into patties and handle as little as possible. Fry until golden brown on each side - about a couple minutes per side for room temperature crab or a little longer if the crab meat just came out of the 'fridge.

Fry on medium heat in a shallow frying pan using as little oil as possible to coat bottom of the pan. You want to taste the crab not the oil.

Enjoy with a huge green salad and a side of fries.

    Bon Appétit!
