The Christmas holidays are over but there is plenty of time for planning - and time for reminiscing about old and new memories with family and friends, both near and far.
With photography a generational family hobby, you can bet that we always have an assortment of videos, digitals, and prints to share.
Scrapbooking those memories is the best way to gather, organize and preserve those memories. Scrapbooks make the perfect gift not only for Christmas but also for nearly every other celebration.

In fact, do not limit yourself to Christmas. We have even designed recipe books to hand out at Thanksgiving.
They contain family favorites from years gone by. Every family has a treasure trove of photos and slides, along with memorabilia stashed away in shoe boxes, steamer trunks, and even old albums.

Unfortunately, we cannot share the digitals with every family member around the world so we have turned to scrapbooking as a way to organize the photos and other moments into beautiful albums.
Scrapbooking has come a long way. The old photo album has morphed into a work of art.
Yet, with patience, the right tools, and an unending selection of supplies, this hobby does not take any special skills. In fact, every member of the family can participate in this popular craft.
There are websites that can walk you through the basic skills, there are community classes for scrapbooking and there are people you can find through your local paper, the yellow pages or on the Internet that will be glad to build your scrapbook for you. We also opted for an alternative to the album.
Every year, as a Christmas gift, we receive a video version of the traditional scrapbook. Photos taken at birthdays, during summer vacation and at all holidays during the year are gathered together, put in some semblance of order and all put onto a video tape or DVD. This also has the advantage of keeping your photos safe from deterioration due to age or normal wear and tear.
Needless to say, we enjoy many other crafts and hobbies. They include:
Sewing: A family hobby passed down through several generations and learned more out of necessity but one which I continue to enjoy. For years, we made our clothing for a perfect fit but mainly due to the fact that shopping for clothes was literally impossible. Now, sewing is more for quilting, crafts and special outfits.
Quilting: If you sew, you can quilt but many artisans and crafters have taken this hobby to another level. It has become an art form and here in Woodbridge, Virginia we are lucky to have such artisans. Join the Cabin Branch Quilters!
Knitting and Crocheting: Crochet seems so time consuming but I am "never not knitting". Although I learned how to knit as a child, it was quickly replaced by sewing during my teens. About 40 years ago, I jumped back into the knitting. It quickly transformed into something much more involved with participation in local crafts shows, teaching both one on one and to groups. In the early eighties, it officially outgrew its hobby status and became a full-fledged business.
Beading: We made it to the International "Gem and Jewelry" show this past December and we will no doubt attend again February 19-21, 2010. Relatively speaking, beading as a hobby is a new favorite...we've collected quite a few beads, findings and books on the topic. Now we have to find the time to complete a project.
