What are the best Christmas gifts and the hottest toys for 2009?
And where will we find them here in Woodbridge, Virginia?
Obviously, everyone has a different idea as to what constitute the best gift to find under the tree. In fact, many kids [and adults] may have a totally different outlook on what constitutes the perfect top 10 presents..you know, the one present that will make or break the day.
In our home, July and August usually bring an uptick in dropped hints, suggestions for gifts and the delivery of elaborate, detailed wish lists. Although we keep a list of gift ideas throughout the year, it's time to refine the list.
We're into November and count them - with mere weeks left until this year's holiday gift giving season, it is time actively begin the adventure of holiday shopping.
What would I like this year? Why, a Nintendo Wii Console w/ Wii Sports Game of course...the Nintendo Wii Fit Bundle (Wii) in particular.
I've watched my grown nieces and nephews have so much fun that its time for auntie to join in!
Anyway...With a well-developed list in hand, you are well ahead of the game. Throughout the year, keep an ear out for gifts ideas your family members express an interested in, especially the children and add them to a gift idealist as time allows. In this way, when September rolls in and ends the hazy lull of summertime, you can begin organizing, refining and planning an efficient gift buying process.
Organization makes it:
- Pampers the holiday budget which is tighter than ever - look for sales throughout the rest of the year
- It prevents frantic, last minute shopping for a less than ideal gift.
- It gives you the peace of mind that you took the time to find the perfect gift for everyone on your shopping list but it also
- Removes the stress of the "missing gift" for anyone on your list - a distant relative, your child's teacher, an office co-worker, or worse yet, not having any ideas for a gift.

Start now and enjoy the entire season even more. It is definitely not too late to begin jotting down gift ideas and starting a definitive list for this years gift giving.
At the very least, create a starter holiday gift shopping list for your immediate family and relatives to include your spouse, children, and grandchildren.
If you do not have any specific ideas for gifts they might want this holiday, then simply note down a few things that best describes items they enjoy such as hobbies - bet someone you know is into scrapbooking at some level!
Judging from the room full of supplies, I know we are...along with other crafts, some of which we've taken to "craft show" and "business" levels. The 24 inch Cricut Expression in on a particular wish list this Christmas.
Personally, we have made books a part of the holiday gift giving as young and old alike enjoy reading. Audio books are popular these days with nearly every title and author available in this highly portable format. Children always welcome the classics.
Another idea for your holiday gift shopping list: cookbooks - they're always favorites with all the women in this family, especially the heritage style recipe collections which we like to hand out at Thanksgiving. Just think, you can prepare Grandma's favorite cinnamon rolls for Christmas morning.
If you know what type of music they enjoy, make note of it.
IPod owners can even download podcasts of children's favorite shows. You may not be familiar with the specific albums and artists they enjoy; however, knowing which style of music they prefer is a step in the right direction.
Make a separate list of gift ideas for non-family members as well. Alternatively, you can also start a list of gift ideas for friends, acquaintances, co-workers and others such as teachers, the mail carrier, etc.
