How I Shop Nordstrom Rack by The Webmaster (www.living-in-woodbridge-va.com) Nordstrom Rack has been my favorite store since Potomac Mills Mall opened its doors back in 1985. Shopping an outlet store is quite different than walking into the regular retail store. When you get used to it, it becomes difficult to shop regular retail! There is a definite trick to shopping Potomac Mills Mall and Nordstrom Rack in particular. It is my very first go-to store whenever I need anything "special" but I always go with the expectation of not finding what I am looking for. Sounds strange but it is fact. Actually, the very best Norstrom Rack deals were totally unexpected. Won't tell you how many pairs of shoes I've purchased over the years - all at ridiculous prices. The shoes are high quality, name brands such as Merrells, Mephisto, Juicy Couture, Coach (even though we now have a Coach Outlet within eyesight of the Rack). Dresses, gowns, wool coats, menswear, designer childrens clothing and nearly everything you can think of is there if... You are not expecting to find it You carefully go through the racks and rounders looking at nearly every item. Recognize the value of the merchandise and the actual savings Able to spend more than 15 minutes in the store - it takes a good 45 minutes to an hour to check out new merchandise. Able to visit often - you will not find a great deal every time you visit. Are ready to buy it when you see it - it is not likely to be there long. Know when they deliver new merchandise - and be there to get the best choice in sizes or colors. Get there when the doors open, preferably during the week - the store is neat, the merchandise is on the racks. Be aware that the floor layout is never the same from day to day - racks and rounders are constantly moved so don't expect to find anything except the merchandise along the walls such socks, jewelry, household goods, some menswear and the shoes, to be in the same place as they were the day before. My best advice? Try to find a shopping cart. You will definitely need it and never put anything back on the rack! If you hesitate, it will magically disappear before you have a chance to retrieve the item. There is nothing more disconcerting than changing your mind about that blouse, dress or those slacks and then watching them being picked off the rack before you can reach them...or worse yet, strolling by in another shopper's cart. Believe me, it has happened to me more than once - and it is usually something on which I hesitated, if only for a moment. You either keep it in your cart until you've decided you really do not want it or it does not fit, if you decide to try it on. I personally have the advantage of being able to drive back to the store any hour of the day but my primary tactic is to BUY IT and then return the item if it does not fit the intended recipient.
