The best aspect of Italian cuisine is that, as in Chinese food, there are so many regional cuisines such as Roman, Neapolitan, Sicilian, and Piemontese specialties."
When in Rome, eat as the Romans do. My favorites from this part of Italy are the pasta dishes.
Sailing through the straits of Messina at dusk is impressive, especially when Mt. Etna is putting on a show. Capri is as beautiful as you imagine, and Naples is unforgettable but its also where I ate some of the best tasting pizza. The Campania region of Italy is rich is gastronomical history.
Sicily is the basically the crossroads of the Mediterranean Sea so its food is heavily influenced by the many cultures which left their mark on the cuisine. Ever had real antipasto? It is a specialty of Piedmonte cuisine.
In my mind, nothing will ever take the place of a big bowl of minestrone. Picture this...you arrive in Trieste after a day long road trip. It's very late, you're beyond tired, and you can barely keep your eyes open.
Yet nothing can keep you from sitting down in a completely empty, dock side restaurant and order your favorite soup - loaded with vegetables, fresh pasta and topped off with freshly grated parmesan. Add an open face, prosciutto sandwich and voilà! Yum!
Obviously, there is so much more to Italian cuisine than a bowl of soup but memories are made of this and other scrumptious dishes.
Chain Italian restaurants can only offer imitations of the authentic dishes but the Olive Garden® restaurant does serve up a tasty bowl of minestrone.
The Chicken Parmigiana is a favorite among the classic entrées when I don't feel like making it at home.
What is your favorite Italian restaurant? What is your favorite dish? Do tell...
We'd love to compare notes and recipes too.
Buon Appetito!
Personally, I'd make a meal out of the calamari appetizer, the fresh bread and dipping oil alone but if you don't know what to select, go for the "Johnny" - a combo of their three most popular dishes.
Ordering is always quick. For seafood, try Spiedino Di Mare otherwise my number one choice is Veal Marsala.
Recommendation? The food is consistently great!
An internet search places this Italian restaurant in Dale City but the address reads Woodbridge. It is located in the Foulger Square shopping center.

The atmosphere is a little loud, especially when very busy but the food is good.
My favorites are the Seafood Linguine and the Chicken Scaloppini.
In my opinion, the flavors are not quite authentic as they could be. Good food nonetheless...
It's Minestrone - It goes without saying that my favorite is the unlimited soup, salad and garlicky breadsticks special!
They are located at 4130 Merchant Plaza in the Merchant Plaza Shopping Center, Woodbridge, VA 22192-5085. Phone: (703) 590-9999
Don't let the Manassas address fool you...this pizzeria/ristorante is in the "Shops at County Center" [Harris Teeter] shopping center, off Hoadly Road and the Prince William Parkway.
Beer and wine served on the premises and they also deliver. Unfortunately, the Amici website is currently down and we cannot link to their fabulous menu. Their telephone number is [703]878-6652. Ask about their selection of Italian specialties and regional dishes.
They are located in the Montclair Shopping Center, at 4394 Kevin Walker Drive, Montclair, Virginia 22026.
