Pest Control ServicesYou know it is time to call your local pest control services when the ants are in full battle gear, the termites are on the warpath, and the mosquitoes are desperately seeking type A and B.You run to the phone but who are you going to call to fight back? Here is a listing of companies which have the Woodbridge, Virginia area fairly well covered. No need to call PETA - we are definitely not out to rid the landscape of woodland creatures and other harmless garden pests. But we do draw the line at those critters which seek to call our house their home. As it is, living in a heavily wooded area of the county, physical pest control requires full time commitment! We've learned to co-exist with the beavers, deer, red fox, rabbits, raccoons and countless varieties of slithering creatures. After all, they were here first and they invariably run in the opposite direction when you approach. Nor can I forget the rudimentary lessons in how to avoid scorpions. It was a real learning experience. However, close in, the family draws the line at multiple close encounters with widows, recluses, wolf spiders and sphecius speciosus! Enough said...who are you going to call?

OrganicThis may be the only way to go is you have small children and pets.It is the safest method to use to protect everyone's health and it may be the only alternative if you have severe allergies and/or breathing problems. Pesticides can cause serious side effects. In fact, we've also had bad experiences with our pets when it came to the use of chemicals for pest control. Why not try the natural approach to critter control? Some methods are quite effective. Mosquito borne diseases are back in the news locally and, thanks to personal experience with malaria, mosquitos definitely rank high among the garden pests we try to eliminate. Citronella candles works well up to a certain point. It seems you would have to be enveloped in a cloud of smoke to provide totally effective "coverage". A few drops of Citronella and lemon grass oils will drive most everything away - to include family members! Bug sprays and lotions have their own pros and cons...mostly cons, in my humble opinion. About the only lotion that is pleasant enough to apply is Avon's Skin So Soft. No clue which ingredient acts as a repellant but it works! Ever wondered how to make a "homemade" mosquito repellent or which plants repel the pesky insect?
Unfortunately, Prince William County is back in the news with the mosquito borne, West Nile virus. Who knew there were so many species capable of carrying the virus! Ultrasonic
Pictured on the right is just one of the many models available. Companies claim it can scatter critters of all types up within a certain distance. Although I've come across many positive reviews, let's say I remain skeptical of its efficacy.
Way too many questions left unanswered or barely covered. Give me the old reliable flyswatter, a broom or a size 13 shoe!!
