Time To Shop 'Till You Drop

Woodbridge was and still is a typical suburban area comprised of several perfect "bedroom communities" but back in the '70's, it was definitely not a retailers' dream location.

What lured us here were the wide open spaces and affordable housing.

It is obvious that we arrived just in time to settle in and be witness to what is without a doubt the largest business and real estate development boom of the Washington D.C. suburbs.

Today, Woodbridge, Virginia is the new "retail" center of northern Virginia!

There was a time when buying gifts or checking off items on a Christmas wish list meant going into the big city or nearby malls such as Springfield Mall or the more distant Tyson's Corner Mall complex.

But...Woodbridge has changed tremendously since the '80s.

No more driving here, there and everywhere - we've created our personal holiday gift shop. In fact, we've even helped other family members complete their wish lists with purchases from many Woodbridge, Virginia retailers.

According to recent Census Bureau figures, Prince William County rapidly caught up with its more affluent neighbors to the north and west.

Woodbridge came along for the dizzying ride.

Previously known simply as the home of Potomac Mills Mall, Woodbridge is not only a veritable discount-store mecca, with a wide choice of retailers but also the site of major real estate development .

In fact, Potomac Mills Mall is now deemed to be one of the largest tourist attraction in the Washington D.C. area. As residents, we can vouch for that fact. Thanks to the I-95 corridor, and judging from the increased traffic congestion, it often feels as if everyone on the East Coast is, in fact, visiting Woodbridge, Virginia.

What are you shopping for..the perfect prom dress, a spectacular ball gown, a cocktail dress or maybe wedding attire? Furniture, toys, shoes, sporting goods, books, cars etc. - you'll find it all right here.

Conveniently located right off I-95, Woodbridge, Virginia is an ideal location for retail giants who are setting up shop right here in our back yard.

We have a Nordstrom Rack. The Rack is my favorite stores. Unfortunately, the Chico's Outlet store closed its doors in October 2009.

The Neiman Marcus© "Last Call" outlet recently added its glitter to the mall. Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th is here too. Soon, a Macy's department store will become the newest anchor store in yet another, brand new, upscale retail center across from Potomac Mills.

Why buy anywhere else???

Thanks to the I-95 corridor, and its perfect location just outside the nation's capital, it now feels as if everyone on the East Coast is shopping in Woodbridge, Virginia.

Potomac Mills Mall

Thanks to Potomac Mills Mall, I've have perfected a well-honed skill: targeted shopping.

It has literally become very difficult for me to buy at regular retail...even when sale prices are in effect.

Wondering where to find the best deals at Potomac Mills? We'll post them on the "News Blog" but we also tweet about them in real time.

Supermarkets

Where do we buy our groceries? Looking for a particular supermarket? Giant Foods and Safeway definitely rank high up on the list of supermarkets as having the most stores. There are several Bloom markets and a Shopper's Food Warehouse.

Costco and Sam's Club can be found within the shadows of Potomac Mills with BJ's a short distance away.

As a combination international, ethnic and specialty market, Global Foods is an adventure in itself. If you are looking for specially prepared Halal foods, we have several ethnic markets.

We have no-frills Aldi stores and two Bottom Dollar food markets. Smaller grocery stores round out a wide selection of ethnic supermarkets.

Want to go upscale and totally gourmet? Visit Harris Teeter and Wegmans for the ultimate in specialty foods.
