There are so many things to do...in and around Woodbridge, Virginia.
Your will find events to suit every taste in every age group, but what else is happening this weekend, this month? It's always good to plan ahead.
Do you have a favorite local event? Wondering where to hike, bike or test your golfing skills?
There are beautiful golf courses right here in Woodbridge and in Prince WIlliam county.
Is your goal to run a half or full marathon? No problem! Check out out Fitness & Sports topics.
I could even tell you stories about Tough Mudders or Spartan obstacle races - sprints, supers, beasts and trifectas. We have a multiple trifecta finisher in residence!
Yes, Prince William County is steeped in hisotry.
We've been totally involved in historical reenacting since the early 90s so it's likely you'll find us in Civil War encampments or participating in a living history event.
But there is plenty of history to soak in just visiting the historical sites and battlefields. No need to step that far back in time unless you really want to.
It is definitely one of our favorite things to do during the summer and, of course, the annual Prince William Country Fair held in mid-August is a family favorite, with something to interest everyone in the family and Virginia's largest county fair.
Pick your own - apples, peaches, pumpkins and Christmas trees. A family traditions for many, many years, we are now taking the grandchildren to pick their own summer fruits and berries.
Are you into crafts? It's been one of my personal favorite hobbies for years. High on the list of events for artisans and crafters interested in selling their art is the Occoquan Arts and Craft Show held in June and September. Vendors come from far and wide for this juried show held in Occoquan. The Fall show is the big one.
Love to quilt? Years ago, I belonged to The Cabin Branch Quilters - they're still going strong! If you don't quilt, perhaps you sew or knit. Various neighborhood groups meet on a regular schedule. They are perfect for those of us who enjoy getting together with other crafters.
The kids love everything about the variety of summer camps offered by the Prince William County park authority.
Love hiking? Here is a list of the top trails in the Shenandoah National Park. Close in, we can enjoy Veterans Park with its tennis courts, Prince William Forest Park for hiking and biking but don't overlook Leesylvania State Park for hiking, fishing, boating and recreation along the shores of the Potomac River.
Virginia State parks offer a multitude of outdoor activities for all age groups.
Put those bikes on the rack and find the best cycling trails in Northern Virginia. We're lucky enough to have miles of local trails but you don't have to drive far to multiply those miles and ride in the District and Maryland.
The perfect Saturday and Sunday morning outing...
It's a family thing. We're always on the lookout for fruit and veggie stands. This farmer's market gives local farmers the opportunity to sell freshly picked fruits and vegetables. We've also bought baked goods, jams and even flowers.
Rain or shine, this market is opened on Sundays 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. from April through November 22nd. Where? On the Dale City commuter lot on Dale Blvd., next to Center Plaza Shopping Center.
The commuter lot is accessible from Gemini Way, the road which loops behind the shopping center.
Drive a few miles to Old Town Manassas and you have a large Farmer's Market. During the summer, we go on Thursdday mornings to find the best selection of everything from baked goods to vegetables, fruits and meats.
Occoquan also has a farmer's market.
It is held on the Mill Street parking lot on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon through November 14.
The Mill Street lot is right next to the Route 123 bridge over the Occoquan River.
For additional information, please call 491-1918.
A new event in Occoquan is the annual River Fest.
Here is the perfect Fall weekend getaway.

As Woodbridge, Virginia residents, we live barely over twenty miles from center city Washington D.C. - the nation's capital.
Needless to say, the sights and sounds of the city are ours to enjoy any day of the week, weekends and on holidays.
So why not become a "tourist" and leisurely discover the cultural heritage of Washington D.C?.
We remember it as the Smithsonian Kite Festival. Renamed theCherry Blossom Kite Festival, it is now associated with the annual Cherry Blossom Festival.
The Kite Festival is one of the most popular spring time events held in the Washington D.C. area.
It has always been a perfect reason to head into the "city" and visit two of our favorite downtown destinations - the Smithsonian and the Air and Space Museum - and one of the "must attend" events of the year.
It has become even more fun now that we have two more boys in the family. They fly their kites on the beach, in the field behind their school playground, in their back yard...
We never tire of visiting the museums...participating in annual activities, as well enjoying the many things to do and see around the city.
The Newseum is located at Pennsylvania Avenue and Sixth Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. It is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. For additional information you can call 888/NEWSEUM (888/639-7386).A Kid's Guide to Washington, D.C.
Going downtown for the 4th of July fireworks is a family tradition but we also have spectacular fireworks displays around Woodbridge, Virginia!
For an extra dose of fireworks, sit by the riverside to view the Memorial Day fireworks at Quantico Marine Corps Base. A spectacular sight!
Speaking of Christmas...How about Christmas on the Potomac? Yes! It is another in the spectacular production by the Gaylord National Resort at National Harbor.
A fun thing to do during the holidays is to drive through the different neighborhoods to see the Christmas lights. Christmas on the Potomac events will surely become another seasonal tradition.
Dale Boulevard near Hillendale Road is a favorite spot but there are also sections of Lake Ridge and Montclair where residents definitely put on award winning light shows of their own.
Did you participate in or are you planning a special event this weekend?
Surely you have a great story about it - we hope you will share it and add to our list of fun things to do around town.
