US Passports
How & Where To Get A Passport

Do you need to apply for US passports? Wondering where passport services are located in Woodbridge, Virginia?

With plenty of first hand experience in this process, and several maroon issues, a green issue and now a third blue issue of a U.S. Passport, I've even used the "rush" services to renew a passport.

However, I was lucky enough not to wait in line. But that was then...under totally different circumstances.

Getting a passport is not as like waiting at the DMV for your driver's license.

As of July 12, 2010, adults applying for their first passport book will have to pay $135 (current fee is $100.)

The wallet-size passport card, which Americans can use on certain trips closer to home, is going up from $45 to $55 for first-time applicants.

Extra visa pages, now free, will cost $82 under the new fee schedule.

The passport renewal fee, currently $75, will go up to $110.

Even under rush conditions, it takes several weeks and an extra fee. And you have to be on a very special mission to get it overnight!

So, plan ahead and give yourself plenty of time. The last thing you need to be worried about is whether you'll actually receive your passport in time for departure!

Really pressed for time? Take your application downtown.

US passport types - maroon, green and blue.

Ask the photographer not to rush things! There is nothing more disconcerting than to have Customs agents check several times to make sure the photo matches the person standing in front of them!
