July 20, 2010 18:43 - Christmas In July...Surely They Jest!
About this time of the year, I fully expect to be showered with specials on back to school supplies or off to college, let's decorate the dorm roon ads but Christmas in July?
It is bad enough to see the giants push the various retail shopping seasons steadily up the calendar each year.
We noticed Halloween paraphenelia during our beach vacation last August. Cherubs and hearts replaced the tree ornaments and tinsels before the start of the new year!
As a business owner, I should not raise too much of a rucus as I have to prepare for one of these merchandising "seaons" but that's another story related to a business of more than 30 years standing.
But...as a shopper, it is difficult enough to keep up with the typical merchandising calendar so please, please let's keep the decor somewhat seasonal.
Don't know about you but in no way can I personally get jolly, work up any kind of holiday cheer or remotely get in the Christmas spirit when the heat index is hovering above 100 degress.
Let's see...we're on our 37th straight day of temps over 90 degrees, right?
However, as much as I dislike seeing the entire holiday setup including decorations and seasonal music while sprinting from one air conditioned location to another, I have to smile at the advertised prices.
Am I in my right mind? Is that ....really only $$$?

Do you travel on a regular basis? Need to renew your passport...as I do, or more accurately should have?
Time to open your wallet a little wider! Effective today, July 12, 2010, you and I will be paying more for new passports, extra visa pages, even to renew the old passport.

Enjoying our sizzling temperatures? Temperatures are supposed to hit triple digits again today and every meteorologist on television promises cooler weather and rain. Maybe.
Unforgiving, record-toppling and soaring temps - they're not telling us anything we've not already figured out.
Guess we should thank the sun gods that it's a relatively dry heat but seriously...when was the last time you could fry an egg on the pavement?
Needless to say, lawns and gardens in general taking a beating. They've turned from a lush green to a crisp tan in a matter of days. Let's hope some will survive the drought and revive quickly.
Think cool and come on, let's all do a rain dance!

No more driving up to Springfield...there's a new "shoppe" in town.
It's the Vitamin Shoppe, located at 14065 Shoppers Best Way, just off the Prince William Parkway in WOODBRIDGE, VA 22192.
Their telephone is 703-583-1479 and the Store Hours are Monday-Saturday 9-9, Sunday 11-6.
Not everyone (not even in our family!) believes in the benefits of various health food products or even in the necessity for taking basic vitamins and minerals.
But then again, they (and certain medical pros) cannot overlook certain results achieved against all odds and strictly due to the use of these herbal supplements, etc. But that's another long story...
Why not take advantage of the Vitamin Shoppe's July free samples? I'm stocking up during their grand-opening specials!

July 5, 2010 11:11 - NEW at Potomac Mills Mall
Can you believe it? Bloomingdale's will open their first store in Prince William County at Potomac Mills on August 20. Currently, the Tysons Corner Center has the only other store is Virginia.
Also new to the Mall...
Crazy 8, a fashion and accessories store for newborn to size 14 and a "Gymboree" brand will open in Neighborhood 2. (Go to URL)
